Artist Statement

Boston Arts Academy has helped me develop my artistic skills. I started making art when I was young, but I became passionate at the start of sixth grade. I decided to attend BAA because I wanted to become a better artist. I have taken many art classes at Boston Arts Academy like Art Connections, where I learned how to make different types of books and got to use various mediums like collage and paint. I also studied anatomy, architecture, photography, printmaking and graphic design. My nomination and acceptance to Putney School in Vermont allowed me to meet people from all over the world. I was able to take art and vocal classes.

Before BAA I did not know what value meant, but now I feel that I am a master when it comes to value. There is contrast in my drawings, from lights and darks and in between. I love realistic drawings and I try to make my pieces look entirely realistic with value. I love drawing the anatomy of the human body. My goal is to be able to learn more about anatomy and draw the human body without looking at it.

My training as an artist will prepared me for my future goals as a doctor. Having Figure Drawing every Friday and taking anatomy class has helped me understand how the human figures and the proportion of a human body. While taking anatomy class I realized that I was curious of how they body functions and all the body parts. I am a visual person and being trained, as an artist will help me in my future goals because I will use that skill to understand the body and other things as well.
